Baseball Recap: Wakulla Comes Up Short

Wakulla had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 9-11 to make it five. They fell just short of the Florida State University High School Seminoles by a score of 8-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Seminoles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-4 back in March.

Wakulla saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Wimes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Florida State University High School, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Florida State University High School's side, Kade McLeod tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, McLeod posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Jerrett Vaughan was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Florida State University High School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Tanner Hall was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Wakulla and Florida State University High School should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The War Eagles will face off against Taylor County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (182 vs. 396). Meanwhile, Florida State University High School (ranked 172nd) will meet North Bay Haven Academy (ranked 497th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
