5A Region II District 11 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Garland was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 5A Region II District 11.
South Garland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lakeview Centennial, 27-17. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Colonels.
BRENT DAVENPORT put up the best numbers through the air as the Patriots fell to South Garland. He finished with a total of 11 completions for 185 yards and two touchdowns. DAVENPORT's favorite target this week was NEIMAN REED, who caught six passes for 81 yards.
Jonathan Williams was the best wideout in the league this week as Rowlett lost to Sachse. Williams tallied five receptions for 103 yards. Chris Heath helped Rowlett's passing attack out by catching four balls for 41 yards.
Kent Myers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Mustangs defeated the Eagles. He completed 18 passes for 191 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 152 yards. Myers' favorite target this week was Tyrique Edwards, who caught four passes for 41 yards.
Sachse's Myers and Bruce Brookins have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region II District 11 in both passing and receiving yards. Myers has thrown for 2029 yards this season, while Brookins has 28 catches for 551 yards. DEMARCUS HALL from Lakeview Centennial leads the league in rushing with 771 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Owls take on Mark Behrens' team. Garland is in fourth place, while the Mustangs are in first place.
Kendall Miller's team moved up to 251 from 315 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Patriots were able to make the jump by losing to Mark Cox's team 27-17.
