Softball Recap: Kankakee Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Kankakee had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Bloom Blazing Trojan. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kylie Glogowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Kankakee got a big performance out of Kylee Cunningham, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillian Landis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Kankakee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Kankakee's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Bloom, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kankakee will head out to square off against Momence at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bloom, they will venture away from home to face off against Thornton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blazing Trojan are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
