Florida high school football teams combine for state-record 89 points in 9 overtimes

Melbourne Central Catholic (Fla.) and Clearwater Central Catholic (Fla.) performed a game for the ages on Friday night.

The two teams put up a state-record 89 points in nine overtime periods, as the Hustlers outlasted the Marauders 69-62 in the Florida Class 3A regional final, according to Florida High School Football.com.

Yes, this was football and not a basketball game.

Melbourne Central Catholic quarterback Joaquin Collazo posted the game-winning touchdown run. The Hustlers then denied Tennessee commit CJ Cotman at the goal line on fourth down to end the thriller that took more than four hours, according to Florida Today.

The 89 overtime points also tied for the second-most in national history, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations Record Book.
