Softball Game Preview: Coconino Panthers vs. Sahuarita Mustangs

The Coconino Panthers will challenge the Sahuarita Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Coconino will be looking to extend their current 22-game winning streak.

Coconino is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Eastmark 2-1.

Kaitlyn Tso spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 29 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Coconino saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danica Kern, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Sahuarita came out on top against Mica Mountain on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Thunderbolts. Considering the Mustangs have won 23 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mayrani Munoz was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

Sahuarita has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Coconino, they pushed their record up to 27-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home.

Both Coconino and Sahuarita just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Sahuarita struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits.
