Preview: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. Nash Central Bulldogs
SouthWest Edgecombe is 8-2 against Nash Central since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will be playing at home against the Nash Central Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
SouthWest Edgecombe posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Thursday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-23 victory over Ayden - Grifton. The victory was just what SouthWest Edgecombe needed coming off of a 75-30 loss in their prior game.
SouthWest Edgecombe found their leader in underclassman Kd Collins, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Collins hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. Mackenzie Moore was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Nash Central made easy work of Bunn on Wednesday and carried off a 40-18 win. The win was just what Nash Central needed coming off of a 47-24 defeat in their prior matchup.
Nash Central found their leader in underclassman JaKayla Gay, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Cameron Fate, who scored four points along with nine rebounds.
SouthWest Edgecombe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Nash Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
Tuesday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Collins and Gay. Collins has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 16.7 points and 2.4 steals. For her part, Gay has averaged 12.8 points, 2.1 steals, and 3.4 assists.
SouthWest Edgecombe strolled past Nash Central in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 66-51. Does SouthWest Edgecombe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Nash Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
