Softball Recap: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons

Spring Valley extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Lugoff-Elgin Demons. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Demons when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Lugoff-Elgin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.

For Lugoff-Elgin's part, Cassie Merriweather tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Kayley Lynch was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Brown, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Spring Valley will face off against River Bluff at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lugoff-Elgin will be paying especially close attention to the Vikings' game: after the Vikings face off against the Gators, they'll take on Lugoff-Elgin again at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
