Baseball Recap: Carrollton Comes Up Short

Carrollton dropped their record down to 8-6 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Calhoun Warriors by a score of 2-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Hawks were not able to get on the board.

As for Calhoun, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

For Calhoun's part, not much got past Jack Zipprich, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Carrollton off the board. Zipprich has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calhoun saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Nolte, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carrollton will host Auburn at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Calhoun, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Metro-East Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
