Basketball Recap: Grand Valley Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Grand Valley came into Saturday's contest having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Olathe Pirates with a sharp 42-18 victory on Saturday. The matchup marked the Cardinals' most dominant win of the season.

Grand Valley found their leader in sophomore Alexa DeMaio, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 15 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Brynli Dowd, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

Grand Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Grand Valley's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 3-10. As for Olathe, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grand Valley will host Rifle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Valley is facing Rifle at the right time seeing as Rifle is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Olathe, they will square off against Cedaredge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cedaredge will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Olathe surely won't give up without a fight.
