Softball Recap: First Flight Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

First Flight hadn't done well against Holmes recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Nighthawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Aces a 4-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Nighthawks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

The result came thanks to Riley Gilreath's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mamie Kyger, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Savannah Schnader was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

First Flight's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Holmes, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, First Flight and Holmes will both be playing Pasquotank County the next time they take the field. The Aces will host the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Nighthawks will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
