Basketball Recap: Arion Palacol's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marysville Getchell over Monroe

Marysville Getchell was the 71-63 winner over Monroe when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Marysville Getchell fell 52-39 to the Monroe Bearcats on Friday. The matchup marked Marysville Getchell's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Marysville Getchell players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Arion Palacol, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. The game was Palacol's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Mariano Palacol was another key player, putting up eight points.

Marysville Getchell's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-5. As for Monroe, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marysville Getchell will face off against Everett at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Marysville Getchell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season. As for Monroe, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Monroe Bearcats duke it out with the Snohomish Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe is facing Snohomish at the right time seeing as Snohomish is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
