Football Game Preview: Copley Indians vs. Roosevelt Rough Riders

The Copley Indians will face off against the Roosevelt Rough Riders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Copley will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Aurora, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Indians walked away with a 21-14 victory over the Greenmen on Friday. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Greenmen on their field since October 9, 2020.

Copley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dane Wininger led the charge by rushing for 97 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 58 yards and one touchdown. Those 97 rushing yards gave Wininger a new career-high. Bryce Martin was another key rusher, rushing for 99 yards and one score.

Copley's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Rhalachi Childs, James Cruz, and Justin Chatmon, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Aurora's side was Childs, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Roosevelt hadn't done well against Barberton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Rough Riders secured a 33-29 W over the Magics. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rough Riders.

Roosevelt's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Copley, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-2.

Copley strolled past Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 by a score of 34-20. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rough Riders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
