Softball Recap: Calloway County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mayfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calloway County). Everything went their way against the Mayfield Cardinals on Thursday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Hailee Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Audrey Overbey was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laynee Houk, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Calloway County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Calloway County's victory bumped their record up to 3-22. As for Mayfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calloway County will head out to take on Murray at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mayfield, they will venture away from home to face off against Hickman County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
