Baseball Recap: Gilroy Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Gilroy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Oak Grove Eagles 10-9. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Mitchell Friebel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Friebel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayson Quezada, who went 4-for-6 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brennan Neander, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Gilroy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Gilroy's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 9-6. As for Oak Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Gilroy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
