Baseball Recap: Hammond Central Takes a Loss

After flying high against Gary West Side on Wednesday, Hammond Central came back down to earth. Hammond Central lost 14-5 to Michigan City on Friday. Hammond Central was not able to make up for their loss to Michigan City from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Hammond Central saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Santiago, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Santiago has become a key player for Hammond Central: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-14-1 otherwise.

Hammond Central dropped their record down to 8-15-1 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Michigan City, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammond Central will square off against Hammond Baptist at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Swordsmen's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Wolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Michigan City, they will challenge Crown Point at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
