Baseball Game Preview: Valley Christian Academy Lions vs. Coast Union Broncos

The Valley Christian Academy Lions will square off against the Coast Union Broncos at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Christian Academy knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Coast Union likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Valley Christian Academy made easy work of San Luis Obispo Classical Academy and carried off a 20-2 victory. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Torin Ellis made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Valley Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Fakoury, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. Those five hits gave him a new career-high. Tomas Kramer was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Coast Union came up short against Buckley on Wednesday, falling 14-4. The game marked the Broncos' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Valley Christian Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Coast Union, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Everything went Valley Christian Academy's way against Coast Union in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Valley Christian Academy made off with a 7-1 victory.
