Softball Preview: Egyptian Pharaohs vs. Cobden Appleknockers
The Egyptian Pharaohs will head out on the road to face off against the Cobden Appleknockers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cobden took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Egyptian, who comes in off a win.
Last Wednesday, Egyptian narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Meridian 9-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Egyptian.
Rayah Huffman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Huffman has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Huffman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a double.
In other batting news, Abrianna Woodson was excellent, going 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and a double. Another player making a difference was Hallie Huffman, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, after constant struggles on the road, Cobden has finally found some success away from home. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 11-1 walloping at the hands of Shawnee on Monday. Cobden has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Egyptian's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6. As for Cobden, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Everything went Egyptian's way against Cobden in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 as Egyptian made off with a 14-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Egyptian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
