Softball Recap: Gallup's Loss Ends 11-Game Winning Streak at Home

If Gallup was feeling good fresh off their 11-4 takedown of Grants last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gallup Bengals took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Belen Eagles on Friday. The Bengals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Madison Martinez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Scottlynn Torres, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Gallup's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Belen, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Gallup wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-5 defeat against Cleveland on the 7th. As for Belen, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-7 loss against Volcano Vista on the 7th.
