Softball Game Preview: Point Loma Pointers vs. University City Centurions

Point Loma hasn't had much luck against University City recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Point Loma will face off against University City at 4:00 p.m. Point Loma will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Point Loma made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mar Vista, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Point Loma put the hurt on Mar Vista with a sharp 14-2 victory on Saturday. That looming 14-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pointers yet this season.

Abbie Hindman looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Avery MacPherson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Molly O'Donnell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Point Loma kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, University City was able to grind out a solid win over Foothills Christian on Monday, taking the game 4-1.

Melia Galvan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

On the hitting side, University City saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ingrid Peters, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

University City pushed their record up to 4-6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Point Loma, their record is now 9-2-1.
