Baseball Recap: McGehee Triumphs

McGehee barely beat Drew Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Owls' pitchers stepped up to hand the Pirates a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Drake Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of McGehee's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Brown was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Clemons, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for McGehee: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.

The win got McGehee back to even at 4-4. As for Drew Central, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when McGehee Owls face off against Crossett Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Drew Central, they will face off against Smackover at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
