Baseball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

Franklin Academy was the 11-10 winner over Gouverneur when they last played one another back in April, but their luck changed this time around. The Huskies took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats on Tuesday. The Huskies' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Hunter Shantie put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ryan Payne and Chase Carriero did some serious damage despite the final result: Payne went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Carriero went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Joshua Avery, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Franklin Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-8-1. As for Gouverneur, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Coming up, Franklin Academy will head out on the road to face off against Potsdam at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies are facing the Sandstoners at the right time seeing as the Sandstoners are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Gouverneur, they will be playing at home against Indian River at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
