Baseball Recap: Hawthorne Drops Highest Score of Season Against Peniel Baptist Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hawthorne). They put the hurt on the Peniel Baptist Academy Warriors with a sharp 21-9 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Connor Flinchum was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tison Thomas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Hawthorne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Hawthorne is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.78 hits in those games compared to only 3.43 in the others. This is the second loss in a row for Peniel Baptist Academy and nudges their season record down to 6-8.
