Basketball Recap: North Platte Comes Up Short

North Platte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 76-52 to the Columbus Discoverers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Discoverers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-39 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, North Platte still got an impressive performance from Kalieb Odell, who shot 60% from the field on his way to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Odell a new career-high in points. Eli Broman was another key player, putting up nine points.

Columbus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxson Vasicek led the charge by going 5-for-12 to rack up 12 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. Another player making a difference was Quinn Freshour, who posted 11 points in addition to three steals and three blocks.

North Platte's defeat dropped their record down to 2-21. As for Columbus, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-17.

As of now, neither North Platte nor Columbus have any future games scheduled.
