Softball Recap: Pine Crest Comes Up Short

Pine Crest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 24-23 heartbreaker at the hands of the Highlands Christian Knights. One positive for the Panthers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Elly Schnurman stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Samantha Burke was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Schnurman wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Pine Crest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Pine Crest's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Highlands Christian, their record is now 2-6.

Looking ahead, Pine Crest will be taking part in a tournament against Miami Country Day at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine Crest has given up an average of 21.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Highlands Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Pine Crest at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
