Softball Recap: Sugar-Salem Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Sugar-Salem entered their tilt with Preston on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 11-5 win. Considering the Diggers have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kambry Bartholick made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Sugar-Salem let Kenadee Birch and Ashlyn Harris run wild. Birch went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Harris scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Shilo Woodcock, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Sugar-Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in seven consecutive games.

Sugar-Salem's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Preston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Sugar-Salem will face off against South Fremont at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Preston, they will head out on the road to take on Skyline at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
