Softball Recap: Maumee Panthers vs. Lake Flyers

Maumee fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lake on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Flyers by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Flyers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 two weeks ago.

Julia Coutcher put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Coutcher wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taryn Pyle, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another was Jamie Brooks, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Maumee and nudges their season record down to 7-6. As for Lake, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maumee will challenge Otsego at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lake, they will face off against Rossford at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Flyers are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
