Baseball Game Preview: South Pike Eagles vs. Port Gibson Blue Waves

For the second straight game, South Pike will face off against Port Gibson. The Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Blue Waves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Pike's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Friday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for South Pike after they put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 11-2 to Port Gibson.

For Port Gibson's part, Michael Evans made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Evans has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Terrance Evans, who scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kimontae Crutison, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-5.

Port Gibson moved to 7-11 with that win, which also ended their eight-game losing streak. As for South Pike, they now have a losing record of 5-6-1.
