Baseball Recap: Copley Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Copley dropped their record down to 9-12 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aurora Greenmen. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Greenmen earlier this season, when they won 11-3.

Jake Stitsinger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Chmielewski, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Aurora, their win bumped their record up to 6-11. The game was the first time they have beaten Copley on their field since May 2, 2022.

On Aurora's side, they got a great performance from Johnny Slisz as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Slisz has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Carson Smith and Tommy Hach did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Hach got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Hach is becoming a predictor of Aurora's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't).

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Copley will head out to take on Brecksville-Broadview Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bees will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Aurora, they will challenge Mayfield at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greenmen are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
