Football Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

Chaparral extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-8. They lost 50-25 to the Pine Creek Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Eagles are ranked 11th).

As for Pine Creek, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points over those games.

Pine Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xavier Lukes led the charge by rushing for 181 yards and three scores while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Lukes has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Walden, who gained 164 total yards and two touchdowns.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chaparral is set to square off against their familiar foe Fountain-Fort Carson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pine Creek will face off against rival Regis Jesuit at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
