Softball Game Preview: Blacksher Bulldogs vs. Leroy Bears

Blacksher and Leroy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Blacksher Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Leroy Bears at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Blacksher is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Blacksher is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Excel on Friday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Anna Grace Hollinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Laney Saucer was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played.

Meanwhile, Leroy didn't have quite enough to beat Thomasville on Thursday and fell 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Bears have lost by just one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Leroy and nudges their season record down to 4-4. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Blacksher, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Blacksher came out on top in a nail-biter against Leroy in their previous meeting on Wednesday, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blacksher since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
