Softball Recap: Sabino Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

While Sabino put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Ironwood Ridge. The Sabercats walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Nighthawks. The Sabercats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Nighthawks, too.

Avery Nielson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Alyssa Aguirre was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Mia Acosta was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Sabino has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ironwood Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

Sabino has already played their next contest, a 6-1 defeat against Mica Mountain on the 14th. As for Ironwood Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-1 victory against Pueblo on the 14th.
