Basketball Recap: Sierra Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Deja Burns and Zuleyka Garcia

Sierra lost against The Classical Academy back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sierra Stallions fell 52-39 to The Classical Academy Titans.

Despite the loss, Sierra had strong showings from Zuleyka Garcia, who posted seven points and five steals, and Deja Burns, who scored six points along with eight steals and six rebounds. What's more, Garcia also posted a 38% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024.

The Classical Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryann Ferguson out in front who earned seven points and five boards. Thanks to that strong game, Ferguson now owns an excellent 46.3% shooting accuracy. Kelsey Peterson was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Sierra suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 12-8. As for The Classical Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-9.

Coming up, Sierra will host Elizabeth at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Sierra is facing Elizabeth at the right time seeing as Elizabeth is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for The Classical Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Canon City at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Canon City will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something The Classical Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
