Recap: Briarwood Academy Buccaneers vs. Gatewood Gators
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers can now relate to. They fell just short of the Gators by a score of 15-12. Briarwood Academy's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Briarwood Academy still got an impressive performance from Charlie Mosley, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Mosley has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played.
Even if they lost, Briarwood Academy's defense sure didn't make it easy: Gatewood's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Mason Thigpen and his two sacks.
Gatewood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hunter Johnson, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Briarwood Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Gatewood, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Briarwood Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gatewood will head out on the road to face off against Edmund Burke Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Edmund Burke Academy: 8.8, Gatewood: 14.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
