The Old Forge Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Elk Lake Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Old Forge's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Elk Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The scorekeeper got an easy start two weeks ago as neither Old Forge nor Riverside made it on the board until the eighth inning. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Blue Devils couldn't push the score so high this time.
TJ DiMattia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Old Forge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Iacavazzi, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Elk Lake narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Holy Cross 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
The team relied heavily on Noah Gesford, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Ayotte, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Elk Lake's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Old Forge, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Old Forge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Elk Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Old Forge's way against Elk Lake in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, as Old Forge made off with a 15-8 victory. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
