Carl Albert running back broke Xavier Robinson's school record rushing for 44 touchdowns.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2025 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Delijah Matthews of Carl Albert (Midwest City) is the 2025 MaxPreps Oklahoma High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior running back led the Titans to a 14-0 record and fourth consecutive Class 5A state title.

For the season, Matthews tallied 254 carries for 2,033 yards and a school-record 44 touchdowns. He broke two-time MaxPreps Oklahoma Player of the Year Xavier Robinson's record of 39 he established in 2023.

Keeping opponents on their toes, Matthews completed all six passes he attempted this season for 112 yards and three touchdowns while recording 15 receptions for 119 yards.

In a dominant 48-7 win over Bishop McGuinness (Oklahoma City) in the state championship game, Matthews had 28 carries for 104 yards and four touchdowns.

The week prior in the semifinals, Matthews had 20 carries for 148 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-7 win over Newcastle.

Matthews' season-high came in a 49-0 win over Lawton during the regular season, carrying 24 times for 270 yards and four touchdowns. He scored a touchdown in all 14 games this season and reached the end zone three or more times in nine games, helping Carl Albert win its state-best 20th title in Oklahoma.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
