Basketball Game Preview: Miller Buccaneers vs. Gregory-Portland Wildcats

The Miller Buccaneers will face off against the Gregory-Portland Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Friday, Miller ended up a good deal behind Flour Bluff and lost 56-42.

Despite the loss, Miller got top-tier performance from George Simmons, who went 8 of 20 en route to 23 points and five boards. Simmons has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Corey Holmes, who posted five points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Gregory-Portland unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and fell 100-61. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-26.

Gregory-Portland's defeat dropped their record down to 25-6. As for Miller, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Miller was able to grind out a solid victory over Gregory-Portland when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 74-65. Does Miller have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gregory-Portland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
