Basketball Preview: Silver Creek Dragons vs. Columbus East Olympians

Silver Creek has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Columbus East Olympians at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Thursday, Silver Creek blew past the Lions, posting a 79-44 victory at home. Given Silver Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Lions are ranked 399th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kasen Daeger was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 5 assists. Dane Sprigler was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Columbus East's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They fell to New Albany 72-68. Columbus East has not had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Silver Creek's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Columbus East, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Silver Creek was able to grind out a solid victory over the Olympians in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, winning 65-57. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Columbus East's Ben Sylva, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Silver Creek to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
