On the hitting side, Bo Gomric was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jason Dowell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Metro-East Lutheran). They put the hurt on Cahokia with a sharp 22-3 victory on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Comanches: they've now won three in a row.
Ben Schilbe made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schilbe was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gage Trendley, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Matthew Barber, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Metro-East Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Metro-East Lutheran pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Althoff Catholic, their record is now 5-1.
