Softball Recap: Deer Creek-Mackinaw's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Deer Creek-Mackinaw lost against Illinois Valley Central back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Chiefs fell 7-2 to the Grey Ghosts.

Mackenzie Knowles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Deer Creek-Mackinaw saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Cottingham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-11. As for Illinois Valley Central, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Deer Creek-Mackinaw will host Delavan at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Illinois Valley Central, they will face off against Eureka at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
