Basketball Game Preview: Cairo Syrupmakers vs. Monroe Golden Tornadoes

Cairo hasn't had much luck against Monroe recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cairo Syrupmakers will host the Monroe Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. Cairo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Cairo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They lost to Thomasville on the road by a 52-35 margin on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Monroe didn't have quite enough to beat Dougherty on Friday and fell 69-67. The Golden Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Monroe saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kie'Aundria Acree dropped a double-double on 37 points and 21 boards. The matchup was Acree's 34th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Mckinzy, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Cairo, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Cairo was taken down by Monroe 65-37 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Cairo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
