Basketball Game Preview: Poth Pirates vs. Cole Cougars

Poth hasn't had much luck against Cole recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Poth Pirates will face off against the Cole Cougars at 8:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Poth sitting on ten straight wins and Cole on 13.

Poth is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They managed a 56-51 victory over Taft.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Cole challenged Aransas Pass on Tuesday. Cole snuck past Aransas Pass with a 55-50 win. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th in Texas, while the Panthers are ranked 535th in Texas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Poth better keep an eye on Logan Beckstrom. He was instrumental in Cole's win, going 9-for-14 en route to 32 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Beckstrom has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Braxton, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Poth's record is now 21-11. As for Cole, their record is now 28-7.

Poth couldn't quite finish off Cole when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 46-43. Thankfully for Poth, James Livingston (who went 9-for-14 to rack up 22 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
