Baseball Game Preview: Riverview Sarasota Rams vs. Venice Indians

Riverview Sarasota and Venice are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Riverview Sarasota Rams will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Venice Indians at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Riverview Sarasota: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Venice has snatched up 14 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.

Riverview Sarasota came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Lakewood Ranch by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rams have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Morgan Peggs was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 12 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Alastair Simonson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Venice and Calvary Christian (ranked 11th and fourth in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest on Tuesday. Venice had just enough and edged out Calvary Christian 5-4.

Venice's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Riverview Sarasota, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
