Analy is 1-9 against Cardinal Newman since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Analy turned things around against Pinole Valley on Thursday. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 8-4.
Sophia Pellini spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Liliana Bloom, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryann Brown, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Cardinal Newman and Windsor meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Cardinals walked away with an 8-3 win over the Jaguars.
Cardinal Newman also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Callie Howard gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. Howard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jordyn Johnsen was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Izzie Kunimune, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Cardinal Newman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Cardinal Newman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Analy, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-8.
