Baseball Recap: Scotts Valley Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Scotts Valley waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Monterey Dores.

Elliott Smith tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Asa Swanson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Owen Martin was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Scotts Valley's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Monterey, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scotts Valley will host Aptos at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Mariners have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Monterey, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Monte Vista Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Dores will no doubt try to take advantage of.
