Baseball Recap: Northland Prep Academy Starts Season with Victory Against Red Rock

Northland Prep Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 22-4 margin over the Red Rock Scorpions. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Blayden Cosper and Tyler Cary made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Cosper struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cary struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). What's more, Cosper gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Cosper scored four runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Cary got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five stolen bases gave Cosper a new career-high.

In other batting news, Michael Cary and Wyatt Massey did most of the damage at the plate: Cary scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Massey scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Cary a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Carson Green, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Northland Prep Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wickenburg at 3:45 p.m. on March 20th. As for Red Rock, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Phoenix Christian at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
