Softball Recap: Houston County Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Houston County's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Northwest Vikings 9-8. That's more bragging rights for the Fighting Irish, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Brilee Anderson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Preslee Moore was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Kylee Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Houston County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwest struck out eight times.

Houston County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Northwest, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Coming up, Houston County will head out on the road to challenge Hickman County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northwest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
