Baseball Recap: Jamestown Takes a Loss

Jamestown extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They lost 23-7 to the Saegertown Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 back in April.

Danner Babcock made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nolan Herbold, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

As for Saegertown, their victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.1 runs.

On Saegertown's side, Garrett Crawford was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Crawford was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wyatt Burchill was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Gabe Jordan was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Jamestown is set to take on their familiar foe Rocky Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Saegertown will square off against rival Cambridge Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
