Baseball Recap: Jacksonville Drops Highest Score of Season Against Southwest Onslow

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jacksonville). They were the clear victors by a 15-7 margin over the Southwest Onslow Stallions on Wednesday. The victory was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on four straight.

Vasco Sutton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs. Jacksonville is undefeated when Sutton posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Maguire Lewis and Kaiden Cox did most of the damage at the plate: Lewis got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Cox went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. What's more, Lewis posted two hits, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jaron Buie, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Jacksonville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Jacksonville now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Southwest Onslow, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Coming up, Jacksonville will welcome J.H. Rose at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rampants have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Southwest Onslow, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 defeat against Croatan on the 21st.
