Recap: Neuse Charter Cougars vs. North Lenoir Hawks
The Neuse Charter Cougars pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Lenoir. Neuse Charter has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Neuse Charter lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cayley Cochran, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Cochran scored a full 33.3% of Neuse Charter's points, the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Layla Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven steals.
Shamaya Lynch was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points for North Lenoir. The match was Lynch's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kristina Mewborn, who scored 17 points.
Neuse Charter has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for North Lenoir, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Neuse Charter will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Henderson Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. North Lenoir won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against SouthWest Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on December 6th. SouthWest Edgecombe presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than North Lenoir in North Carolina (SouthWest Edgecombe is ranked 162nd, while North Lenoir is ranked 373rd).
