Baseball Recap: South Fremont Gets the Win

South Fremont and Filer pushed the score to 11-8 the last time they played Filer, but on Saturday defenses reigned supreme. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Wildcats two weeks ago, they had to take a 11-8 defeat.

Cy Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South Fremont is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Tayson Farley and Jordan Hammond did most of the damage at the plate: Farley went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Hammond went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Farley has become a key player for South Fremont: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-11 otherwise.

South Fremont is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Filer, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

South Fremont will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair will be back at it again later today.
